Personality Profile...

So the other day I was watching TV and a commercial came on for eHarmony. I don't really believe in internet dating but something struck a chord and I had this thought, "What if she's on there?"

She's not.

I signed up and filled out all the crap and it has yet to match me with anyone. The one thing it did do was give me a personality profile. I like it. So here is the first part...I think there are 5 parts so come back for updates.

Introduction to Agreeableness

This section of your profile describes your interactions with other people. The ways we communicate our feelings, beliefs and ideas to others are influenced by our cultural backgrounds, the way we were raised, and sometimes which side of the bed we got up on this morning. Some of us are very mindful of others making decisions we hope will be in their best interests, even if it means sometimes neglecting our own interests. Others of us believe each person should be responsible for themselves, taking deep pride in our own character and independence with a firm belief that others are best served by doing the same. The following describes how you engage with others; illustrating the dimension of your personality that determines your independence or your desire to reach out and touch others in meaningful ways.

You are best described as:
USUALLY TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF
Words that describe you:
  • Perceptive
  • Realistic
  • Demanding
  • Down-to-Earth
  • Hardnosed
  • Judgmental
  • Pragmatic
  • Skeptical
A General Description of How You Interact with Others

You are clearly a compassionate person; you believe that you should do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and you know that friends help their friends. But with you compassion is just one side of the coin; the other being a side that also expects others to hold up their end of the bargain. So you help others but it is with the expectation that others don't take advantage of you or try to put one over on you. In short, you expect others to treat you as you treat them.

And for those people who do ask for help when they should have taken responsibility for themselves? This is the time when your more hard-edged side comes out. You are skeptical of people when they expect others to bail them out of trouble; if they got themselves into the bind, they should work their way out of the trouble. If it's an emergency, or if it's a friend who has been there for you when you have had hard times, you are there in a quick minute. But you are a discerning person and to you there is a big difference between an emergency and a self-inflicted wound. You just look at the facts: how the situation developed, how serious the situation, and how they can or cannot get through things on their own. The history you have with the person and with similar situations will inform you whether this is or is not a time for you to get involved.

You also have some limits when it comes to being with people. Sure some people need to be with others all the time and seem to get recharged by helping out most anyone else. But that's not you. You know that you do best if you spend a fair amount of time on your own. Not that you are a loner, just that time spent by yourself is not wasted at all with you. You've come to understand that if you don't take good care of yourself, eventually you'll be not good to anyone, including yourself or others.

So your compassion is tempered by realism. Your sympathy for people in trouble is balanced by a critical evaluation of how they got themselves to the place they are. And you've learned to take good care of yourself, so you have something to give to your friends or others truly in need.

Negative Reactions Others May Have Toward You

Some people may see your practical style as lacking compassion. When your compassion is tempered, as it is at times by your discerning questions and careful consideration, it may seem to some like you have too much head and too little heart. And when you use time and energy to take care of yourself there will inevitably be some who see you as selfish and uncaring. But your approach is neither heady nor selfish. It is you. And unless your approach is causing you consistent problems in important relationships, there is really no reason to change. Your distinctive manner of having clear expectations for the relationships in which you will exert your energy is true to the core of you.

Positive Responses Others May Have Toward You

The truth is that most people respect someone who knows themselves and what they want. So even if some people don't get exactly what they want from you often they will leave with a deeper respect for you. Your frank and honest approach may help someone to help themselves when they didn't think this was possible, and they wind up better off: they're out of trouble, they did it on their own, and they have you to thank. And you were, again, true to yourself.

I Don't Know Much...but this is FUNNY

The song playing...or that should be playing right now on my player has a bit of significance. It will now and forever remind me of my brother-in-law, Dallas Tanner. We were out on the golf course this past Monday and for some reason this song popped into his head. He started singing it, but not in his voice, instead he imitated Aaron Neville, the guy singer. He's got a uh...unique voice which made Dallas's impersonation even better. It almost brought me to tears. The best was that he started substituting the words out for his own which made me laugh even hard. "I can't believe a bogeyed." All day we went back and forth singing in that voice about the days activities and events.

Writing it down does no justice at all. You may not appreciate this post but I had to give you the reason the song is up there right now. When Aaron sings at the beginning of the 2nd verse...that's where the magic is. I hope you read this and can enjoy it for what it is. That's all you need to know.

Burraston Ponds

So I know you people, yes, you people, like pictures. (I think it is part of the dumbing down of America. The fact that you won't take the time to read this makes me a little upset because sometimes I have a lot to say but not a lot to look at. Yeah, I just called all of you dumb in a round about way.) But in order to satisfy your need for visual stimulation...here.

I went to Burraston Ponds a couple weeks ago and got some pictures from my friends that I went with. I'm sure they have pictures too. Check out the Beck and Sifuentes blogs if you got some time.

This is the little Beckham Sifuentes

Me working on breakfast. That Lil Debbie sure knows what she's doing.

I'd like to call this a lateral dive. It's new

Boys will be boys. Dave, Jeremey and I testing the rope swings limits. It passed.

I held on to try and avoid landing on Dave...who landed on Jeremey.

The Celebration Station!

Let's just say I have some good friends that love me. I got hooked up with these 'on the field' couch seats from my good buddy Johnny Recalde. This is after my friend Brad invited me to the game. Johnny calls and says he's got the hook up. So there we are on the field on some super comfortable couches. People are staring at us in pure jealousy. It helps that I am wearing a homemade shirt that says, "I'm Awesome."

During the 2nd half the subs were warming up and we told the players warming up that if they scored they needed to come to the Celebration Station, aka our seat. So Robbie Findley knocks one in points right at us and comes running.

Awesome right? I then click on the MLS League website and that is the main picture on the website. I'm working on getting in touch with the photographer so I can maybe get some prints of it.

This was my 2nd spat at international stardom. I was also pictured on the US Men's Soccer website a few years back celebrating behind the goal as Landon Donovan scored the 2nd goal against Costa Rica in a World Cup Qualifier.

Update from Utah

I have moved to Provo Utah. I am settled and doing well. I start a new job as a PI within the week. I live in South Provo on the way to Springville on South State Street. I live with a couple of guys, one of whom is Katy MacDonald’s cousin that I have met on occasion growing up. I just wanted to give a quick update to all those inquiries. I didn’t take any pictures of the move. A) because I don’t have a camera. B) I was too tired after moving it all to worry about it.

On another note, I had the opportunity to be a part of the Reeve Reunion 2008 in Midway Utah. This also gave me the chance to golf a little with my dad. We played the Park City Municipal Course. It was a lot of fun besides my poor play. The round was highlighted on the par 5 18th. I decided to borrow my dad’s driver and smash it. Half the time it is really ugly, the other half of the time pro golfers would be jealous. It happened to be the latter. 330 yards later my ball stopped in the middle of the fairway. The next shot was set up for a nice, easy 7 iron from about 180 yards out. Nailed it! I ended up getting a birdie on the hole and it made it all worth it.

Back to the reunion, I’m sure some pictures will surface somewhere but I don’t have any. It was a lot of fun to see cousins that I hadn’t seen in a long time. Those friendships and connections have not been lessened by distance or time. When you see them they are family and you love them as much as you ever have before. We talked and reminisced about the reunions of past years. It was fun. That is all for now.

In Memoriam

As this move draws closer I am sad that I have to go. I like Arizona. I like the friends I have made, the family I have here, sibling lunches and judging cookie recipes, and the softball and soccer teams…all that stuff. It’s been a fantastic time.

I won’t always miss the 114 degree days we’ve been having but I’ll miss the monsoons that follow. The camping trips, shooting guns, rocking the quads, wakeboarding in March, scorpion hunting, floating the river, Mariokart on the big screen, karaoke, TNDC, trips to Utah, concealed weapons permits, Dashboard Confessional concerts,

The Waffle House at 2am, sporting events, driving with the windows down in December, and kicking it with my peeps... Needless to say I am sad to go. I would gladly stay if I had the ways or means but alas…I do not. I must go.

On to Utah. I make my journey in less than a week. I leave abruptly. I feel like I should be staying longer so I can say my last goodbyes. There always seems to be unfinished business.

I'm Moving! Yikes!

It has been some time since I have got my blog on. I thought I would give you a quick update up what is happening in the life of Caleb. It is my birthday tomorrow. I turn 29. scary.

The biggest news is that I am moving back to Utah at the beginning of the month. My time in Arizona has unfortunately come to an end. This makes me pretty sad because I have grown to love it here. I have many great friends and associates and my 2 loving sisters as well. I will miss sibling lunches. I loved being so close to you and getting to see you as often as I did. Now Brttiany and Kara won’t have reason to be so jealous.

The reason for the move is because I am in desperate need of employment and I have a company up there that is going to let me do work. I am going to be a Private Investigator. I worked with this company before I moved to Arizona and they said they woud be happy to have me back.

During my time in Utah I plan on expanding my skill set and taking some classes that will take me to the graphic design side of marketing. I need to learn how to use InDesign and Illustrator so I can be more marketable. It also opens other doors and resources. I will be able to once again judge snowboard competitions, maybe coach some soccer, and also reunite with some close friend whom I have missed while in the AZ.

I don’t look forward to moving and I am still hunting for a place to live. I never thought I’d move back to Utah. Not that it is all that bad of a place but it just wasn’t part of my plan…but then again neither was getting laid off. I’ll blog more, I don’t want to wear you out with all these words and no pictures.

Les Miserables

So last night I was lying in bed listening to Les Miserables and it almost brought me to tears. The music and the words are so touching and meaningful. It just hit me. I was listening to Fantine sing I Dreamed a Dream. Some of the lyrics are “He slept a summer by my side. He filled my days with endless wonder. He took my childhood in his stride but he was gone when autumn came. And still I dream he’ll come to m, that we will live the years together. But there are dreams that cannot be and there are storms we cannot weather.” The performers do such a wonderful job of emoting. The story itself is one full of love, loss, triumph and tragedy. It plays on so many levels. From the rise of Jean Valjean to the demise of Javier, the finding love between Cosette and Marius to the hopeless desires and unrequited love Eponine has for Marius. It is a moving story and I was struck again with this realization.

It takes me back to high school when I did a book report on Les Mis.
I never read the book…shoot it is like 1200 pages, but I knew the story. I’d sing the words of the songs to myself and write down the plot from that process. I got an A+. J I remember when my sister Kara did a dance to On My Own, I’m pretty sure it is my dad’s favorite dance of hers…ever. Kara may wonder why but it really isn’t a big mystery. It was a moving song and beautiful dance strung together seamlessly. Duh. The first time I went to see Les Mis I was maybe 13 and I went with Justin Wilde and his family. Paul, Justin’s dad gave me a brief summary of the plot line and off we went. I may have drifted off a bit during the 2nd half but we had just come from a camping trip.

Mariokart Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

When I first went in with my roommate to purchase a Nintendo Wii, my first question was, “when does Mariokart come out?” That day arrived and it was worth the year long wait.

What a fantastic game. I love it.

The game came out Sunday morning at midnight. So we waited at Wal-Mart for the clock to strike twelve. We rushed home and played a few games. The next night we invited a bunch of people over to play. (You can play with up to 4 people at one time.) Everyone got a turn.

Monday rolled around and last time I checked I didn’t have a job. So I woke up and got to playing it. I literally played all day. A day has never passed so quickly. I think that is a bad thing because you can sit down and play for hours and not even know it.

Well let me tell you what…I knew it on Tuesday! I almost burned my eyeballs off. I have never seen them so bloodshot in my life. I felt bad for doing that to myself. Clear Eyes and Visine couldn’t get the job done. Terrible.

It doesn’t help that we are able to project the game on to an 8-foot screen with a hi-def projector. So Mario and Luigi are literally life-size. It’s awesome. Another new feature is that you can play online again up to 11 other racers from around the country or the world. So there I am screaming at some Japanese guy who ran into a guy from England and knocked me off the track. Of course they can’t hear me but the emotion and passion are real as ever. It feels good beating an international field of gamers who are probably just little kids. I guess its better to think that I am racing people my own age. I am comforted in knowing that at least you play people who have a similar ranking as you. So regardless of age they are supposedly the same skill…but that doesn’t really settle the soul either.

I love it. If you have one and play online ever, get at me and we can be friends and race each other online. AWESOME!

Virginia Tech and Gun Control

Today hundreds of protests were held across the country to make people aware of the year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shooting. These protestors laid on the ground for 3 minutes to represent the time it took for the guy who shot up the place to buy a gun.

I don’t think that “gun control” is the answer…to anything. It may cause more problems than is solves. When it comes down to it crazy people, that are going to shoot up a school or place of business, are just crazy people. Motivated crazy people are going to find guns one way or another. There really isn’t an effective or reasonable way to control that.

Let’s face it; MOST of the people that buy guns do so for perfectly legitimate reasons. MOST people buy guns for recreation or personal protection. MOST people who buy guns are responsible. MOST people hope they never have to use a gun to protect themselves. It is my guess that MOST the people who legally get concealed weapons permits are not the people you have to worry about shooting places up. When you go about the legal process, you are trained, your background is checked, your finger prints taken; its not really a process someone who plans on breaking the law and killing a bunch of people would go through. I’d like to see some statistics about homicides committed by those with a CWP and people with out.

Codes of Conduct and rules at Virginia Tech said that guns were not allowed on campus. So when that was passed over a year before the shooting, law-abiding citizens and students wouldn’t have guns on campus…just the people that didn’t care for the rules. Did you ever think that if those ‘gun control’ had not been there someone legally carrying a gun on campus might have blasted that dude before he killed so many unarmed innocent people? I carried a gun legally on campus when I was at school. Luckily nothing ever went down where I had to use it. Just thought I would bring it up as something to think about.

Charlie Bit Me

Watch both. They are both funny for their own reasons and each is less than a minute long.

Charlie Bit Me - Original

Charlie Bit Me - Remake

5 Rants

A few things have been on my mind recently that may or may not be blog worthy but nonetheless I will rant henceforth.

1.
Why on earth is the US congress involved with the steroid issue in baseball? I see it as a vast waste of time and money for a bunch of elected officials so sit around and listen to testimony about whether or not Roger Clemens took steroids or HGH. Last time I checked Major League Baseball was a private enterprise and Congress was a Government entity. Neither, in my opinion, really have any business with each other on any level.

First of all where does Congress even get off saying they are people of high enough moral fiber to decide which players are “dirty” or to make a judgment call like this and say that what these players did was wrong? A bunch of dirty, corrupt politicians taking issue with something like this is an oxymoron and it makes me mad. Go spend my tax dollars on something better…like how to build a satellite that won’t fall out of orbit after a year…

2.
I have started substituting my signature with “I’m Awesome” instead. Its way more fun to do and I’m pretty sure no one really cares. It reminds me of when Kara used to make checks out to King Poopers instead of King Soopers. As long as people are getting their money…AWESOME.

3.
On the awesome topic, I was on SportsCenter Super Bowl week. I was in Scottsdale, where supers babes flock and reside, at the location where many of the ESPN shows were being filmed. I happened to have brought with me a sign I made. It simply reads: I’M AWESOME. Yes folks, I was one of those annoying people in the background…except I brought a little something to the table, vain self-promotion.

4.As for the Super Bowl, we will not speak of it.

5.
I went to the NFL experience out at the UOP Stadium. It wasn’t as cool as I hoped it would be. It was more focused on making sure kids had fun. That is fine and all but what about the “never-has-been-wanna-bees?” I got skills! Had I been a little taller and a little faster, I could have made a name for myself. What about me? There were a few things that I was able to participate in; throwing footballs at different things. Let me say this: at each station, I executed with precision. I rolled out and hit the target dead center on the run, I avoided would be interceptors and hit my receiver both times, and I also held the Thursday record for throwing a football 56 mph. The guy at the station said I was the fastest he’d seen all day. I took a bit of joy in that but I would have liked to been a little kid so I could have played all the other games as well.

Have a great day people.
